NEW PRODUCT! Ballet For Me And You

Parents Become the Ballet Teacher with New iBook Series

New learn-with-me iBook series teaches child and parent ballet simultaneously.

Tights? Check. Ballet shoes? Check. Helpless parent? Check.

Every time Alissa Baird taught a ballet class she saw the same thing; kids danced, their parents eagerly pressed up against the glass or sat completely disconnected, helpless to participate in their children's love for ballet.

"Of course they want to help, but ballet is complex, it requires an understanding anatomy, french terminology, and it’s dangerous if done incorrectly," says Baird, a former professional with 14 years of children's ballet experience and writer for http://www.balletformeandyou.com/

Baird searched for anything that could demystify the art for parent and child alike, but ultimately decided to take matters into her own hands. For more than two years, she worked with parents and students to design a how-to children's book, that through the magic of iBooks transforms into a parent's how-to guide with the touch of a button.

BALLET FOR ME AND YOU is the first book in the instructional series, written for new students (four years and older) and covers the first three months of class. Parents are guided through selecting a studio, proper etiquette, and 32 of the fundamental ballet steps, with interactive tools, tests, and exercises.

It is available on the iPad via the iBookstore for $2.99.

RDT UTAH SUMMERDANCE

then & now

June 17-28, 2013
Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center
138 West 300 South, SLC, UT 84101

Explore the history and technique of modern dance pioneer, Jose Limon, and use that knowledge to create contemporary movement and choreography.
THEN
Workshop participants will study with Nina Watt daily in Modern Dance Technique including the coveted "Limon technique." In addition, students will learn Limon Repertory, and will learn sections of the Limon work she is setting on RDT for the 2013-14 Season.
NOW
In the afternoon, Kurt Koegel will present a Compositional Skills Suite including:
  • Viewpoints of Composition, an approach to deconstructing choreography into identifiable components to enhance our ability to perceive, analyze and create;
  • Contact and Partnering Skills which focuses on clarity and precision in using duet partner forms for choreographic research
  • Real-Time Composition, the collaborative creation of coherent structure while dancing together.
Throughout the workshop materials and methods will be introduced for practice and experimentation.  We will integrate this work in composed studies as well as real-time scores.  During daily showings, we will continue to sharpen our compositional sensibility by focusing on specific ways of observing, notating and discussing. More information about Mr. Koegel's experience and teaching style can be found at www.kurtkoegel.org.

Lunchtime activities will include video showings, history lectures and Q&A sessions with Nina, Kurt and the RDT dancers.  All participants will perform in a culminating workshop showing on June 28.
