Explore the history and technique of modern dance pioneer, Jose Limon, and use that knowledge to create contemporary movement and choreography.
Workshop participants will study with
Nina Watt daily in Modern Dance Technique including the coveted "Limon technique." In addition, students will learn Limon Repertory, and will learn sections of the Limon work she is setting on RDT for the 2013-14 Season.
In the afternoon, Kurt Koegel will present a Compositional Skills Suite including:
- Viewpoints of Composition, an approach to deconstructing choreography into identifiable components to enhance our ability to perceive, analyze and create;
- Contact and Partnering Skills which focuses on clarity and precision in using duet partner forms for choreographic research
- Real-Time Composition, the collaborative creation of coherent structure while dancing together.
Throughout the workshop materials and methods will be introduced for practice and experimentation. We will integrate this work in composed studies as well as real-time scores. During daily showings, we will continue to sharpen our compositional sensibility by focusing on specific ways of observing, notating and discussing. More information about Mr. Koegel's experience and teaching style can be found at
www.kurtkoegel.org.
Lunchtime activities will include video showings, history lectures and Q&A sessions with Nina, Kurt and the RDT dancers. All participants will perform in a culminating workshop showing on June 28.
